Pilates
The pilates method was developed by Joseph Pilates (1880-1967) and is a gentle yet powerful form of exercise, in which the emphasis is on the breath, movement control and the activation of the correct stabilising muscles to enable excellent alignment of the body throughout the exercises.
Pilates aims to lengthen and strengthen the body and focuses on posture and control. The benefits can be immense, whether it be a clarity of mind and relaxed feeling that you would not otherwise have, the feeling of walking taller and with more awareness, or the resolution of aches, pains and poor posture from long periods of computer work, setting aside the time to do pilates can become a vital and integral part of your life.
On initial consultation we will take a detailed medical history and assess your physical posture, then establish short and long term goals that you will work together to achieve. You will be introduced to the basic principles and techniques involved in pilates.
From this comprehensive starting point a program of exercise will be developed. Some clients choose to take basic exercises home to practise.
Pilates is like cleaning your teeth - the ultimate benefits come from a small amount of committed practise daily.
